Fill the Ark 5K Results 2006
The 4th annual Fill the Ark 5k, 1 mile walk and 10k bike ride was held on Saturday, May 20th, 2006. The local community came out in full force to raise funds for Heifer International, a non-profit organization that donates animals and training to impoverished families and villages around the world. This year over 350 participants and some 25 volunteers enjoyed the beautiful morning by joining in the activities and helping to raise over $8000 for Heifer! The winning times this year were 16:36 by Fernando Ramirez for the men, and 18:43 by former Skyline star Susan Nielsen for the women.
In the past this race has become popular with Skyline distance athletes, although their numbers were down this year due to the conflict with the state track meet. Current Skyline runners Thatcher Olson, Ben Taylor and Isaac Hales placed 2nd through 4th overall among men. Joining the Skyline team next year will be top 10 women Taylor Olson and Rebeckah Winterton and top 10 men finisher Brent Winterton. As is customary, the 1 Mile “Walk” was actually raced by many children, with Garrett England and Jacqueline Winterton taking top honors. New this year was a 10k bike ride. It was a non-competitive event, but special recognition should go to future cycling star Ezra Schofield who amazed bystanders with his speed as he whizzed through the 2 lap course!
Full race results have been tabulated and are posted here (click to view). If you won your age group, please contact Mark or A’Lissa Olson to collect your ribbon and prize (sorry about the glitch on race day). Mark can be reached at 641-2100.
